I don’t consider myself an expert on life, but I like to think I’m doing a pretty good job of my own. I am secure, surrounded by great people and doing what I love. More importantly, I have a deep sense of confidence and self-generating happiness.
My Dad came to mind today, and I was thinking about how there was the odd little thing that he was adamant I knew before I stepped out from under his roof. One of those things was how to change a tire. Before I was allowed to drive by myself he made me change the two front tires on my car to the back, and vice versa. It worked, and I’m certainly confident changing a tire now.
As I recalled that fond memory I then found myself asking, what are some other things every woman should know? What are the lighthearted things I would want my daughter to know (if I had one) before she went out into the big wide world alone? Here is my list:
- Her actual bra size
- How to walk in heels
- How to open a bottle of wine with a real cork in it
- How to travel alone
- How to wear a bright dress with confidence
- How to iron a shirt
- When to call it a night
- How to cook a roast
- …and bake cupcakes
- How to take care of her skin
- How to drive a long distance
- How to eat out alone
- How to write a Thank You card
- How to get ready (and out of the house) in under 30 mins
- How to set a table
- Her parent’s phone number by heart (and to call it frequently)
- How to break a sweat
- What it feels like to have a pedicure
- How to change a tire (thanks Dad)
And finally:
