Have We Forgotten About Wisdom?

I often look around at the world around me, and truly wonder whether it has always been this mad?

At some levels, we – humanity – are highly advanced. The technological advances in my lifetime have been nothing short of astounding. I feel blessed to have been at the forefront of the age of the internet and computing. Our ability to connect and find knowledge is unlike anything our ancestors I’m sure ever conceived of as being possible.

But in other ways, I can’t help but wonder if we are going backwards. That just perhaps our ancestors had more of a clue about the mysteries of life than modern society does. Do you feel me?

We live in the age of scientists and knowledge. We have learned so much, and come so far, but I can’t help but feel that all of the emphasis on measurable phenomena has encouraged many of us to unknowingly turn away from our hearts. We are living in our heads, rocking around on autopilot, never stopping to consider what else life might have to offer us if we were to stop and allow ourselves to go deeper.

Many years ago I was heartbroken. I sought guidance from my best-friends Aunty who was a Clairvoyant. A Clairvoyant seemed way less woo-woo and scary when you were regularly at their house for dinner. I can remember sitting with her in her spooky yet magical room and just feeling so low and lost. In her direct way, she said to me – “Don’t be sad. This relationship was never going to work in the long run. He didn’t have enough depth for you.”

I’ve never forgotten those words. She was right. He didn’t have the depth I was craving in a life partner. He was just rocking through life on autopilot. He wasn’t stopping to think about the life he was living. He wasn’t drawn to consider big questions and explore his inner world or the connection he had with life itself.

And there is nothing wrong with that. He was content with living a superficial life. Perhaps ignorance is bliss?

Clearly, I’m not content with living a superficial life. Depth is my life-fuel. That craving for connection and knowledge is what keeps me feeling empowered and alive.

I don’t want to get to my life and wonder – “Oh my, where did all those years go?”.

I want to know that when I was alive, I truly lived.

But that brings me back full circle. When I look around at the society I live in, I wonder if most of us have our priorities all wonky. It concerns me that too many of us are living lost in a superficial life.

Have we forgotten about wisdom? Has the pendulum swung too far? Are we getting lost in the insanity of our own amazing advances and creations?

In case you’re new, I’m Kate. Hi and welcome! I’m a Life Coach and an idealist. I would love to see a world full of a whole heap more soul, and I know that starts with us connecting deeply with our own wisdom. It’s my mission to help as many people as I can learn how to reconnect with their essence so that they can live truly fulfilling lives. I have an MS in Psychology, but infuse my book knowledge with a giant dose of Soul. Because as humans, we’re more than just our minds; we’re also full of heart.
